Hummingbirds of Flower Hill Farm
Hummingbirds are curious creatures. We cherish our sole species here at Flower Hill Farm Retreat. I have had numerous scintillating moments where a Ruby-throated Hummingbird would suddenly appear and sip from individual flowers I was holding in my hand. Or a time when I had to rescue a hummer that was not able to find his way out of the enclosed breezeway. He was frantically darting back and forth up in the rafters until I lifted up a long Casablanca lily stalk that he gratefully perched upon. I enjoy watching them perch outside my barn studio on branches of lilac and viburnum and marvel at the teeny birds preening or opening their straw-like bill as if to shout. Two males rising up like a water fountain always entertain with their territorial fencing techniques. I hope you enjoy this collection of our native hummingbirds.
