Woodpeckers of Flower Hill Farm
Woodpeckers are skilled woodworkers. Masters at their craft. They carry their tools on their custom made heads. Heads that can withstand the rat-a-tat-tat they perform with long sharp bills. Sometimes they drive us mad with their choice of instruments. A metallic sound from a sign or metal chimney can produce a sound some birds love. They are always experimenting. I have enjoyed enchanting encounters with a couple of species. The Pileated and Yellow-bellied woodpeckers are my favorites. I witnessed what I believed to be a courtship dance between two Picidae only to discover they were both males. Wonderful choreography that lasted over ten minutes. Marvelous birds!
