Accommodations
. . . for those longing to be close to nature. A unique retreat surrounded by organic gardens, fields, and forest. Birds and butterflies abound in our wildlife sanctuary! Nature nurtures. Give yourself and those you love a special way of life . . . for awhile.
Flower Hill Farm Retreat is an experience. It is a charming and comfortable place to visit but it is truly so much more. The Retreat offers accommodations of rustic simplicity within a restored 1790 farmhouse and studio. Writers and artists and nature lovers are all returning guests. And these grounds are the perfect escape for those suffering from nature-deficit disorder. Stately trees around the Retreat and throughout the landscape and forest give us fresh air, healing energy and wisdom freely shared.
You will not be the only ones visiting or residing on this land — once inhabited by the Pocumtuck Native Americans — for the gardens, fields and forest are also home to diverse families of wildlife. Flower Hill Farm Retreat is a vibrant Wildlife Habitat. Seasonal sounds of songs, calls, chirps, bees buzzing, owls hooting, coyotes howling fill the retreat — and the humans inside — with amazement. Carol has sighted and documented over seventy species of birds, over fifty species of butterflies and numerous mammals, while quietly walking through this vital landscape. Many of the sightings and photographs are taken when just looking out the retreat windows. There is a simple fire pit in the upper garden and the opportunity to encounter the allure of the night gardens. You can enjoy conversations or silence with other guests, as the full moon rises to the east. Winter days around the fire energizes the spirit too.
We are situated on an east facing hillside twenty-minutes west of Northampton, Massachusetts. Exceptional views of the Mount Holyoke Range, surrounding hills and expansive sky are ever changing, with cloud parades, mist and fog and palettes of color and light. Add to these experiences — rambles within multi-textured, fragrant gardens that are allowed to flow, covering natural terraces upon this gentle sloping Earth. Apple trees and other blooming trees and shrubberies hold interest, nests and nourishment for the many birds, caterpillars, butterflies and mammals that share this special place. And you can wander through the wildflower and blueberry fields, and an enchanting forest below Flower Hill Farm Retreat.
For twenty three years Carol has welcomed guests from around the world. The antique farmhouse offers a cozy downstairs two bedroom apartment and an upstairs one bedroom apartment. Our private and airy ‘writing studio’ is between the farmhouse and barn studio. Both the Studio and Farmhouse spaces offer air-conditioning and WiFi. Flower Hill Farm has laundry facilities which are available on site by appointment for small fee. The Upstairs has a private laundry room within the apartment. Please look over our RATES and POLICIES page for more information. We would love to welcome you to our little paradise. Any questions? Call 413-268-7481 or EMAIL – carol@caroldukeflowers.com
